A humane rat trap. When caught, the rat can be humanely shot or taken a long way away and released. Rat enters at A, runs along cage and down through trapdoor B (which is closed by a counterweight C) thus entering the secure baited enclosure E. Later, the rat is removed through door D.

Most rodenticides can be purchased in a ready-to-use condition. Whatever you decide to purchase, you must make sure you follow the instructions carefully. It is also vital that all other livestock is taken into consideration. Even more important is the storage of the poisons; I make no apology for repeating that poison must be locked away in a safe place, unobtainable to children in particular!
